Frequently asked questions
Will this work if I'm a complete beginner?
That's who the path is built for. Chapter 1 starts at the sounds of the language, before any grammar, and the first extracts are matched on words you have just learned: food, numbers, the city.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Streal is a web app that runs in the browser on your phone, tablet or computer.
Do I need a Netflix or YouTube Premium subscription?
No. Extracts play in YouTube's own player, for free. YouTube may show an ad before some videos: we can't remove it, and it is also what pays the creators.
Which languages can I learn?
Spanish, English and French, with lessons complete from A1 to C2 in all three. Video extracts are rolling out Spanish first, then English and French. Your interface language can be any of the three.
Who picks the videos?
We do, ahead of time. Each video is timed word by word, checked for the notions it contains, translated once and matched to the lesson where it fits best. Native speakers on everyday topics, never another teacher's lessons.
Do you store YouTube videos?
Never. Every extract plays in YouTube's official player, credited to its channel with a link to the original. No video or audio is stored on our side.
Do I need an account?
Not to try it. A free account (Google sign-in) unlocks the whole of chapter 1 and keeps your progress on every device. What you did before signing up is kept.
How does the free trial work, exactly?
14 days of Premium, for members who have never subscribed before. No card needed. When the 14 days end, Premium simply stops, unless you have added a card to keep going. Nothing is charged without one.
I used the Netflix extension. What happens to my account?
Nothing is lost. Same account, same progress, and Premium carries over to the web app with the same subscription.
I make videos on YouTube. Can mine be in Streal?
Every extract plays on YouTube, in your player, so each one is a view for you, ads included, with your channel credited and linked. Write to us.
